Hard Copies

(Updated 11/3/24) I’m a “hard-copy” person. Even though I work on a computer nine hours a day at work + at home, I often prefer to write down notes first. That said, I have been on an ever-lasting hunt to find out what the best note taking system is by combining multiple notebooks, sometimes condensing them down to one, then expanding back in to multiple notebooks for different purposes. This is what I currently use as my note tasking system, unless any changes overrule the current system. I’m curious to see how others do this.

 For certification study, I have been in the habit of buying these ring-bound notecards to carry around on the go. Since I have picked back up on the CCNP, I have been making index card banks of preparation questions by printing out the questions, using double-sided tape to add them to the card. This has been a successful method as I used it on many exams such as the CISSP as well as the PMP:

After I have the test bank, I carry around these ring-bound notecards and glance at them while waiting in appointment rooms, sitting at a cafe, etc. This allows for me to make “down time” productive.

  • Microsoft One-Note (Used and underrated)
  • Obsidian (Great interface but I didnt love the sync)
  • Google Drive/Docs (Probably my second-favorite)
